| 29 March, 2007 - P-39 AIRACOBRA AT SA's CLASSIC JETS FIGHTER MUSEUM
The Bell P-39 Airacobra under restoration to static display status at Classic Jets Fighter Museum consists mainly of components from partly restored Airacobra's, to completely rebuilt structures and panels. The project started when the museum swapped its P-40N Kittyhawk cockpit and centre section for major components of P-39F 41-715 that had been built up by the Cairns restoration group. This was later purchased by Precision Aerospace at Wangaratta. The Airacobra was dismantled for use as templates for the construction of three airworthy Airacobras at that facility. Utilizing many parts from Wangaratta and from components previously salvaged from Papua New Guinea by Bob Jarrett, the build-up of the composite P-39 Airacobra is well advanced in the Classic Jets Fighter Museum hangar. Current estimated time to completion is approximately two years, after which it will be painted in the colours of P-39F 41-7119 that was flown in 24 Sqn. RAAF as A53-1. This Cobra was lost when it was abandoned by P/O A F Tutt over South Luddenham near Sydney on 19 February 1943.
