| 15 August, 2008 - AWAL SELF ADMIN UPDATE Dear members Over the past few weeks there have been several changes to the way that AWAL manages the process of self administration. I thought it was about time we informed the members about our progress. Our contract with Stephen Dines came to an end, with Stephen completing several airworthiness and over-arching procedures manuals, adventure flight guide and syllabus for the Limited Category Certificate of Airworthiness engineer training program. Stephen has done a marvellous job for Australian Warbirds, as he was crucial in carrying us through the dark days in late 2006-early 2007 when Limited Category aircraft were threatened with grounding. Now begins the real work of training, managing, and auditing the process of self administration. To that end we have entered a new phase, and Temora Aviation Museum Chief Engineer Peter Pring-Shambler has assumed the role of Director of Self-Administration for AWAL. After initial meetings between Stephen Crocker and Peter Pring-Shambler with various CASA people, already CASA has demonstrated a new level of cooperation with AWAL. CASA management have also offered AWAL assistance with its up and coming programs. One of urgent tasks to be undertaken by the AWAL will be to run training course so that engineers who wish to issue Certificates of Airworthiness for limited category aircraft may do so with compliance with the proper process. It will be our aim to train engineers located in all states and territories. To our members it will mean it will be easier when you need to get a new aircraft on the register, by being able to find a local to assist. It will also mean the end of certificates that are not strictly legal, as some owners have discovered to their chagrin in the past. So if you require any assistance with these matters please keep and eye on our new web site, (which will become live shortly). There have been several changes to the site. These include the removal of members names, (due to spammers using the list), and an admin e-mail contact if you have an enquiry about your membership. This year your membership renewal notice will be mailed to you before it expires. You will receive a new credit card-style membership card when you pay your membership fee.
The website will also contain easy to follow flow charts which will assist you when you wish to undertake a task such having a CofA issued for your new aircraft. Finally, we have been working on ancillary members benefits. We hopefully will announce shortly a significant saving on fuel for all AWAL members, and hotel discounts with a leading hotel operator. Again please keep an eye on our webpage for the latest development.
